This is my favorite time of the year. It is so beautiful out this afternoon and here I am in the office. Man was not meant to live so far away from nature. There's no wind and the temperatures are perfect. Shirt sleeves and sandals - mourning doves in the morning, crickets at night. The sun rose today as red as could be before it passed through whatever was fogging up the horizon. The mist comes off the river daily and I'm doing my best to keep up with the garden. It's easy to forget to water and now it is critical to keep up because everything is a wee bit behind. Could be we are in for a wonderful autumn. There are leaves turning along the bank of the river and the water is cool. Since school started there is less activity on the river and that's another reason this is my favorite time of the year.
Does anything taste as wonderful as a tomato from the garden. NO, never in a million years. So, tonight is turkey and tomato sandwich night at the Balcom residence.
We traded some carrots for beets and I pickled 7 pints. It's one of J.C.'s favorites. If anyone is interested in this most easy recipe, let me know. I'll post it.
