Lessons from America's Got Talent

Since I no longer have the platform of a weekly column in the Mandan News, I'm thinking this my become my soap box.
We, rather I, love to watch America's Got Talent. It has Idol beat for the simple reason they have many different acts and not just pop singers... in the end it's all about how you look.
So, last night I got to thinking. Grandma Lee - she's 75 and adorable. As a comedian she can out write most of the youngsters out there. It's so awesome to see her succeed.
As for Reba McEntire. Wow, I just love her. Wait. I may have to change my mind about her. Somehow, she did not even look like herself on stage last night. She had meaty arms, huge boobs, which I don't believe she had in my favorite movie Tremors; and her head was like a pin head on a doll's body. It was sad. What does that say about aging in America????
As for my final thought about AGT. When someone walks on stage - they don't look groomed, aren't articulate, and don't appear to be made of the stuff that stars are made of - look out. Time and time again, talent has appeared in the most unusual packages. Take Kevin Skinner for example. He showed them. God gave that man a rare gift, a voice, honesty, humility and courage to move forward in a world he knows little about and probably never expected to be part of... so.
Take it from me, everyone has a gift. We can't all be idols. We shouldn't worship idols and we shouldn't eat any foods we see advertised or that our grandmother wouldn't recognize (Michael Pollan). Thanks and have a great evening.
