-44 below in North Dakota

Baby its cold out there!!!

I just had to post this video. It was done by some guys my daughter works with in Mandan, ND.

The pheasants are coming into our yard and scratching around under the bird feeders. So, this evening instead of talking about people food, I stopped at the farm store and invested in some corn and thistle seed for the birds.

It has been a long winter, the longest we have seen in these parts for about 8 years. IT WAS AWESOME. Our yard is full of wildlife. It has been hard on the animals, and many have turned into road kill because they are coming closer and closer to the roads, fence lines and tree rows along resident properties.

This video reminds us of just how cold it was this winter.... we set two records, one for the coldest temperature recorded on that day and two for the biggest change in temperature in a day... from -44 degrees below zero to around 40-44 degrees above in about 12 hours. Gotta give ND credit, it keeps you on your toes.

I have also found that contrary to what you might think, people actually get kinder when the weather gets colder. We need each other for starting cars, shoveling roofs, you know, the kinds of things that man was not meant to do alone. It says in the Bible we should all have helpmates and tonight I'm hoping you all have someone to pick you up when you fall, sweep your steps when its icy and cook you a nice hot stew because Spring isn't going to be here for a few more weeks...
