Some grandmother I am...
We had company for dinner last night. Someone to help eat stuffed peppers and mashed potatoes. I am posting a video on the heirloom salad I made also. Boy, when I'm on vacation I can get a ton of cooking done. Anyhow, while I remember my grandmothers having candy dishes around the house when the grandkids came to visit, we have dishes of garden vegetables.
We also toured the garden picking cucumbers, jalapenos and zucchini. Then I remembered Danny was asking about whether our squash got hail or not, so I gave him the one I had rescued and used for decoration on my stove. Then I remembered the corn I picked, so I loade them up with one supper's-worth. His mom asked how to cook it and my loving spouse said, "Well, she could make you a video." Apparently, he thinks I'm crazy. Hey, someday....I'll be the Martha of Mandan.
We also had some purple beans that Danny was growing for NDSU Garden Variety Trials. So I told hiim he needs to eat some and tell me what he thinks so he can fill in the paperwork after the growing season.
Onions, and an offer of garlic which was refused... "one thing at a time," she said. And the kids when home loaded with veggies rather than candy. it was great.
We walked the fields around the house and toured the corn which is about 9-feet high. We scared up a whole bunch of baby turkeys and saw where the deer lay down to rest before they eat my morning glories and apples off our trees. Hmmmm.
It was great. Here's the link to the salad... sorry you can see a few more body parts than just my hands...Bon Appetite. Heirloom tomato salad
