Before the first frost, my daughter so kindly offered to pick the tomatoes in my community garden spot. It was about four boxes of green and turning red tomatoes.
We sorted through those boxes upon our return from Las Vegas. Before I left for Des Moines last week, I canned another 14 or so quarts of tomatoes.
When I got back from Des Moines I roasted the ripened fruit and cooked two dutch-oven sized kettles down to 14 pints of spaghetti sauce. There were green tomatoes that I knew were never going to ripen, so I sorted them again into possible and impossible fruit.
Yesterday, I canned that spaghetti sauce as well as 18 pints and half-pints of mean green tomato salsa. It's maybe more like a relish, but we love it.
It was also a perfect day to hang the laundry on the line and boy those sheet smelled wonderful all night long. This morning it is 40 degrees, however there is still work to be done. I took four tests for my Master Gardener's program and have three left. I am also working on my e-commerce class for DSU because I have another one beginning on Wednesday.
It is quite right now, no wind and the horizon is streaked with colors from gold to pink to purple. I had a thought about a book while I was gone. It would be awesome. I'm glad the gardens are done and I can take a break from all that work, which I enjoy, but whew... I'll be glad when I can be done with classes --- and well, I imagine I will always find something else to do...
