A blended family

4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:4-8

The Bible says there's nothing new under the sun. While Mary and Joseph did not experience divorce and remarriage, they had a somewhat blended family. Joseph did the right thing when he married Mary. He trusted that she was telling him the truth about the baby. He accepted the responsibility of a new family on faith that everything will work out.

Is that what's missing in today's world? The faith that everything will work out, in spite of our efforts to control our lives. It's a bit humorous when you thing about it.

Counting down to Christmas, it's Tuesday, there's snow on the ground and more expected to come, people are missing airplanes, shipments and travel plans have been changed. That could mean spending Christmas somewhere unexpected. Or, it could mean an opportunity. For what? I do not know, but it does no good to complain about the weather.

I may have at one time... until I heard my Uncle Marvin (my mother's brother) ask why the weatherman always said "bad weather this weekend, it's going to rain." As a farmer Uncle Marvin didn't believe that rain was "bad weather" but rather a blessing for his crops.

I love the weather in this state. This past week has been utterly gorgeous with its frosty trees and ever building layer of snow on the ground. It will pass, but in the meantime, rejoice in the day that the Lord has made... He made it for you.
