River Day

It is finally summer and we are going to river today. In a way its a sad day also.
My mom's family usually has a picnic on the third Sunday in July, rain or shine. Well, this year, they have called it off. They had their reasons, but in my mind, it's the saddest day. When something happens for 53 years and then one day, it's gone, well that's sad.
As we get older, family becomes the most important thing in life next to God. Things are changing. It's a sad day if your family disrespects each other and chooses to isolate themselves from each other. That has never happened with my mom's family. Sure, they have their moments, like most of us, but for the most part they have remained true to their mother's wishes to hang together, talking to each other, sharing their pains -- that are increasing as life marches forward.
I'm sad today, but it's a beautiful day and I know each of them will be enjoying it in their own way. Healing wishes go out to my Uncle Marvin, who is currently in Minnesota "having some work done."
I love you all, and look forward to when we can meet again.
